Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf
Title page |
Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf is a British brochure, written in German, which
in 1943 was spread in Germany. On page 224 in Die schwarze Propaganda
(Berlin, 1983, a translation of The black game, London, 1982, the
British researcher Ellic Howe, who back in those days had printed this
brochure, wrote that the text of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf was written by either the
author/astrologer Louis de Wohl, who in the fourties worked for section
1 of the Special Operations
Executive, an office which was occupied with psychological warfare,
or one Rene Hakets. One year later, in Astrology and the Third Reich (London,
1984; translated in 1995 into German, entitled Uranias Kinder: Die
seltsame Welt der Astrologen und das Dritte Reich) he wrote nothing
about the involvement of Hakets and stated that De Wohl was the
principal author. In this article, it is assumed that De Wohl has been
the principal author of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf.
Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf consists of 123 pages. On the cover,
an abstract figure is depicted. On the title page, which contains the
title Der
Kriegsverlauf prophezeit von Nostradamus, an ornament is depicted
which looks like a vase from which flames rise. There are no other
illustrations
in Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf.
In Uranias Kinder... and Die schwarze Propaganda, Howe reported extensively about the
printing of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, a job which
for him was quite a relief in the midst of his daily routine such as the
printing of false German provision coupons. For the text of the
introduction, Howe used the Antiqua font. The quatrain texts in the
introduction and their German translations were printed in the italic
Antiqua font. The French quatrain texts in the five chapters of the
propagandistic part of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf were written in calligraphy by a
certain "miss Elisabeth". With the reproduction of these
handwritten texts, Howe wanted to suggest that these texts were reproduced from
an ancient manuscript, to which was referred in the introduction. The
German translations of these quatrain texts were printed in Fracture;
the comments upon these quatrains in Antiqua. Howe used the thinnest
Bible paper which at that time was available. As a result, despite its
rather big size, the weight of Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf was less than 30 grams.
In Uranias Kinder..., Howe did not mention the number of copies
of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf.
Camouflage
Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf is "black propaganda", i.e. propaganda
which among the target group, in this case the Germans, had to make the
impression that it originated from themselves, i.e. written by a German
and produced and spread in Germany. Besides being written in German,
other measures were taken to give Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf a German look:
-
On the cover and the
title page of Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf, the name of Regulus publishers in Görlitz was
mentioned.
-
The introduction of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf
was in the name of dr. Bruno Winkler, a German Century-scholar
whose books Und dies geheimnisvolle
Buch...! Das
Leben des Michel Nostradamus - Die Geschichte eines Mannes zwischen
zwei Welten (1937) and Nostradamus und seine Prophezeiungen
für das zwanzigste Jahrhundert (1939) were published by Regulus
publishers.
-
In the colophon of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, Hans Kretschmer printing-office in
Görlitz-Biesnitz was mentioned as the printer of this brochure. In
1937, Kretschmer had printed Winklers Nostradamus-novel Und dies geheimnisvolle Buch...! Das
Leben des Michel Nostradamus - Die Geschichte eines Mannes zwischen
zwei Welten.
-
At the end of the
introduction, it was mentioned that the French quatrain texts in the
parts 1 - 5 were reproductions of quatrain texts in a manuscript
which belonged to the herzogliche Ratiborsche
Handschriftensammlung and which was lended out by its
conservator, one dr. Heinrich Lesse. The herzogliche
Ratiborsche Handschriftensammlung might have been an allusion
to the Fürstliche
Bibliothek Corvey in Nordrhein-Westfalen, a private library in
the castle of Corvey, owned by the duke of Ratibor and Corvey.[1]
-
In
Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, the Germans were
addressed as compatriots of the author of this brochure.
-
Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf was imported and spread illegally in
relative small amounts, instead of being disseminated in large
quantities by the Royal
Air Force.
In the colophon of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, the typography was in the name of one Paul George.
This name was a fictitious name; actually, it was Ellic Howe who took care of the
typography. According to Howe's Die Schwarze Propaganda, page
224,
the name "dr. Heinrich Lesse" probably also was a fictitious name.
In Die schwarze Propaganda, which was published a year before Astrology
and the Third Reich (its German translation: Uranias Kinder...),
Howe wrote on page 224 that it was also possible that Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf was written by one Rene Hakets. On page
291 of Uranias Kinder... however, he clearly mentioned De
Wohl as the principal author; he did not mention the name of Rene
Hakets.
Dating
On the title
page of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, the year 1943
is mentioned. The introduction part is dated on October 1942. In the
colophon, it is mentioned that the printing was finished on March 15,
1943.
In this article, it is supposed that the text of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf in most early december 1942 was
finished. In the comment upon quatrain CXXV, De Wohl c.s. seem to have
referred to the battle in North-Africa between German and Italian forces
and Allied forces after the landing of Allied forces in North-Africa on
November 7, 1942. The most recent event to which De Wohl c.s. referred
in Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, was the attack on
the French fleet in Toulon in November 1942. This reference can be found
in the comment upon quatrain XCIX, which was not only linked to the
attack on the French fleet in November 1942, but also to a previous
attack in June 1940.[2]
In Uranias Kinder..., Howe did not mention in what period of
World War II Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf was spread in Germany. According
to the colophon, the printing was finished on March 15, 1943. Whether
this is a fictitious date or not, can not be answered, but it makes no
sense to spread a brochure in a period before the day on which the
printing is finished. Therefore, it is supposed in this article that Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf was spread after March 15, 1943.

The
true Prophecies... (dr.
Th. de Garencieres, Londen, 1672)
Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf
does not contain a bibliography. De Wohl c.s. mentioned only one title
of the Century-comments they used. On page 4 of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf,
they discussed an edition of the Centuries by the physician dr.
De Garencieres, published in 1672. This is The true Prophecies or Prognostications of Michael Nostradamus,
physician to Henry II, Francis II and Charles IX, kings of France, and
one of the best Astronomers that ever were - a work full of curiosity
and learning. This book contains an English translation of the
Preface to Cesar and the Epistle to Henry II and (in French and English)
the Centuries 1 - 10, including duplicate quatrains and additional
quatrains to the Centuries 6, 7, 8 and 10; the Centuries 11 and 12 and
the Sixains. The letter, in the name of Vincent Sève, which in
1605 accompanied the Sixains, is given n English. De Garencieres
annotated all quatrains and Sixains and explained them the way he
saw it.
On page 4, De Wohl c.s. quoted De Garencières' French text of the
duplicate-quatrain 07-41 which contains the word Nizaram, an anagram
for Guilio Raimondo Mazarino (1602-1661), later known as cardinal Mazarin,
and his comment upon this quatrain.[3]
De Wohl c.s. used De Garencières' English translation of this quatrain
as a source text for their translation into German.
The Century-comment of De Garencieres was also mentioned on page
49 in their comment upon quatrain C. According to De Wohl c.s., De Garencieres
explained the word Ausonne in the fourth line as a reference to
Bordeaux, the residence of the ancient Roman poet Ausonius, a
contemporary of emperor Valentinianus. Actually, this explanation by De
Garencieres can be found in his comment upon for example the quatrains
02-63 and 03-86, but not in his comment upon quatrain 05-76, of which
quatrain C was a propagandistically perverted version. De Wohl c.s.
changed the fourth line of quatrain 05-76 (Barbare
Armee viendra Venise craindre) into Sa vaste armee
Ausonne trestout va craindre; they replaced the name of the city of Venise
by the word Ausonne, which they explained as an ancient Roman
name for Italy.[4]
2.
Und
dies geheimnisvolle Buch...! (dr. B. Winkler, Görlitz, 1937)
De
Wohl c.s. had attributed Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf
to dr.
Bruno Winkler and had mentioned Regulus publishers in Görlitz as the
publisher and Hans Kretschmer printing-office in Görlitz-Biesnitz as
the printer. The names of the publisher and the printing office appear
in Winkler's Nostradamus-novel Und dies
geheimnisvolle Buch...!, published in 1937. This means that De Wohl
c.s. copied bibliographical data from Und dies geheimnisvolle Buch...!.
They also copied a number of comments upon quatrains, among which the
comment upon quatrain 06-63, which Winkler had linked to the reign of Cathérine de' Medici.
From Und dies geheimnisvolle Buch...!, also a number of French
quatrain texts are copied. In for example the fourth line of the French
text of quatrain 01-35 on page 6 of Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf, it does not read puis, as in the version of De
Garencieres, but pour. In his discussion of this quatrain on page
99 of the scientific edition of the 1555-Bonhomme-edition of the Centuries,
Brind'Amour did not mention this variant. The word pour can be
found in the version of quatrain 01-35 as given in Und dies
geheimnisvolle Buch...!; Winkler copied this version from the
1650-Leiden-edition. This means that De Wohl c.s. ran through the French
quatrain texts in Und dies geheimnisvolle Buch...!. For the
German translation of quatrain 01-35, they used the English translation
by De Garencieres as a source text.
De
Wohl c.s. did not copy material from Nostradamus und seine
Prophezeiungen für das zwanzigste Jahrhundert, in which Winkler
wrote words of praise about Hitler. Neither did they copy material from Englands
Aufstieg und Niedergang nach den Prophezeiungen des großen französischen
Sehers Michel Nostradamus aus den Jahren 1555 und 1558, in which
Winkler, basing himself upon the quatrains 02-83, 03-57 and 10-100,
announced that through Germany, England would fall.
3.
Nostradamus
or the future foretold (J. Laver, London, 1942)
There
are indications that De Wohl c.s. also copied material from Nostradamus
or the future foretold (James Laver, London, 1942). It is not
imaginary that De Wohl was familiar the contents of Nostradamus
or the future foretold: at the time Laver did his research for Nostradamus or the future
foretold, De Wohl explained to him the ABC of astrology.[5]
Laver was the first Century-scholar who considered the word Hister in
the quatrains 02-24, 04-68 and 05-29 as an anagram for Hitler en thus
dissociated from the meaning of Le Pelletier that this word was derived
from either the Latin word Ister, the ancient name of the Danube,
or the Etruscan word hister, meaning actor or comedian. According
to De Wohl c.s., the pun Hister - Hitler is remarkable because,
as they wrote, Ister was the ancient Roman name of the Danube, a
remark which can be traced back to Nostradamus or the future foretold.[6]
In Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, De Wohl c.s.
ignored quatrain 04-68 and perverted the quatrains 02-24 and 05-29. In
their comment upon these two quatrains, they did not copy elements from
Laver's comment.
The comment of De Wohl c.s. upon quatrain 03-57, in which they wrote
that before the rise of Napoleon, seven changes occurred in England, can
be traced back to either Nostradamus
or the future foretold or to Winkler's Und dies
geheimnisvolle Buch...!. According to Laver, this quatrain had a
time span from 1500 to 1790; the first change in England took place in
1532, when Henry VIII became the Head of the Anglican Church, and the
last one in 1714, when George I became king of Great-Britian. According
to Winkler, the first change in England occurred in 1461 (the succession
of the House of Lancaster by the House of York) and the seventh and last
change in 1714 (the succession of the House of Orange by the House of
Hannover).[7]
The fact that in Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf only
the first line of quatrain 09-49 (Senat de Londres mettront a mort leur Roy) is
quoted, can also be traced back to Nostradamus or the future
foretold, since Laver only quoted the first French line of this
quatrain.[8]
Some other comments in the introduction in Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf also appear in Nostradamus or the future foretold.
4.
National-socialist
Nostradamusbrochures
In
the comment upon quatrain XLIII (Une nouvelle secte de
philosophes...), an almost word-by-word quotation of
quatrain 03-67, De Wohl c.s. referred to a number of German authors who
linked this quatrain to the foundation and the financial support of the NSDAP. De Wohl c.s.
did not mention the names of these authors, nor the titles of their
publications. Perhaps they referred to the brochures Die
Prophezeiungen des Nostradamus en/of Der Seher von Salon,
volumes 18 and 38 van de national-socialist propaganda series Informations-Schriften. In Die Prophezeiungen
des Nostradamus, quatrain 03-67 was linked to the rise of
national-socialism. In Der Seher
von Salon, the remark was made that in Europe, the national and
social problems were solved by fascism and national-socialism, and it
was attributed to Nostradamus that he knew about the program of the NSDAP
and explained its principles in kwatrijn
03-67. In a letter, published #50, 1940, of the national-socialist
weekly Der Reichswart, the German Century-scholar Carl
Loog also pointed to the linking of quatrain 03-67 to national-socialism.[9]
The
propaganda message and its aimed impact
In the discussion of the dating of Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf, it was mentioned that the text of this brochure was
finished in most early December 1942.
According to Howe, the aimed impact of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf was to set rumours going in Germany.[10]
He did not write about the motive to produce this brochure of if
this brochure was part of a military campaign. Perhaps the writing and
the spread of Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf was related to the landing of American and British
troops in North-Africa in November 1942 and the purpose was to try to
undermine German morale by profiting from a development in the war which
was unfavourable for Germany - and Italy.
De Wohl c.s. wanted to show their
readers that in the Centuries, Nostradamus predicted
countless facts and events of which a great number, among which the
birth and rise of Hitler and his military successes, already took place,
and another one would take place in the near future, beginning with an
Allied invasion in Italy, next air raids on Berlin, the fall and death
of Hitler and the end of the Third Reich. In the introduction, which was
closed with the wish that "the wisdom of the Prophet would give
comfort", it was supposed that the German nation was strong enough
to face the truth about the the war.
Original
quatrains, perverted quatrains and invented quatrains
According to Die
schwarze Propaganda (1983 [1982]), the author of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf " composed "about one hundred
typical Nostradamus-quatrains". In Uranias Kinder... (1995
[1984]), Howe wrote that in Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf, the propaganda venom was hidden in the comment upon
the German translation of fifty false Nostradamus-quatrains. The
qualification "false Nostradamus-quatrains" does not clearify
the way in which De Wohl c.s. in the parts 1 - 5 of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf perverted Century-quatrains and
made propaganda. In
the study of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf upon which
this article is based, it became clear how they worked.
The parts 1 - 5 of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf
contain fifty of the about one hundred composed French quatrain texts,
meaning that half of the supplied material was used. These quatrain
texts carry Roman numerals. According to the introduction, these quatrain texts
were reproduced from a manuscript, which means that in that manuscript,
the quatrains were numbered with the numbers, given in Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf.
The quatrain numbers
form a rising series. The first quatrain in part 1 carries the number XXXVII (37),
next comes quatrain XXXVIII (38), next quatrain XLIII (43) etc. until the last quatrain in part 5, which carries the
number
DCCLII (752). This way of numbering has nothing to do with the way of
numbering in the Centuries.
The fifty quatrains in the parts 1 - 5 can be divided into three
groups:
-
A group of thirty-seven quatrains in which De Wohl
c.s.
changed parts of the original text. In a number of cases, one word
has been added or replace, such as in quatrain DC, a perverted
version of quatrain 03-30 in order to announce that Hitler will be
murdered: in the first line, the word Celuy is replaced by Hister.
Quatrain DXXV is an example of an almost complete perversion.
The original quatrain was quatrain 04-15. According to the comment of De
Wohl c.s. upon quatrain DXXV, Nostradamus predicted the German submarine war against
England. A
comparison with the original quatrain shows that they relocated some
lines and replaced some parts by self-invented parts.
In quatrain DCXXXIII,
a perversion of quatrain 10-100 in order to announce the victory of
the Allies, the original text has been perverted to a lesser extent.
The inserted word Americh in the second line of quatrain DCXXXIII
could have been copied from the first line of quatrain 10-66, which
reads: Le chef de Londres par regne l'Americh.

A group of twelve quatrains which De Wohl c.s.
invented themselves. Most of these invented quatrains, seven, can be
found in part 5, in which 12 quatrains are discussed. This means
that De Wohl c.s. did not manage to explain by means of merely
perverting original quatrains that the days of Hitler were counted.
Below, the text is given of two quatrains, invented by De Wohl c.s.:
the quatrains DLVIII and DCXXXIV. By mans of quatrain DLVIII, De
Wohl c.s. announced air raids on Augsbourg, Frankfort and Berlin (Lerbin);
by means of quatrain DCXXXIV the decline of the Third Reich, the
return of the Germans from paganism (national-socialism) to the
manger (Christianity) and the coming of a period of great prosperity.
In their comment upon quatrain DLVIII, it reads that Jupiter was in
Cancer in 1918/19 and 1930/31, periods which for Germany were
unfavourable because of losing the First World War in 1918 and
suffering from a financial crisis in 1930/31, caused by the fact
that the sign of Cancer was in square to the sign of Aries, which
ruled Germany. The fulfilment of quatrain DLVIII was situated in
1942/43, since in that period Jupiter also would be in Cancer.
Verification shows that the given periods in which Jupiter runs
through Cancer, are given correctly; this comment of De Wohl c.s.
was waterproof.

Constructions
in the propaganda
In several ways, De Wohl c.s.
seem to have tried to present the message of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf
as a message by Nostradamus himself.
The
introduction
In the introduction, the readers were made familiar with the
extraordinary qualities of Nostradamus, who as an astrologer distinguished
himself from his colleagues by mentioning the names of
important persons in past and present, among which the names of general
Franco and Hitler, and by the fact that many quatrains, among which
quatrains, dealing with cardinal Mazarin, Henry II, Charles IX, Cromwell, Louis XVI, Napoleon Bonaparte,
general
Franco and Edward VIII already were fulfilled. This discussion was done
by means of original quatrain texts or original quatrain fragments and
comments upon them, copied from a.o. Und dies geheimnisvolle Buch...!
and Nostradamus or the future foretold. The total number of
comments was nineteen; nine of them contained complete, original French
quatrain texts and the corresponding translation into German. The
quatrain texts did not carry quatrain numbers.
In the introduction, the readers were told that the Centuries were
a kind of astrological history book, first published in 1555 by Macé
Bonhomme and containing predictions about the future of the world,
starting from 1555. In order to protect himself, Nostradamus wrote his
predictions down in the form of rebuses. The practice, for example in
the case of De Garencieres and his comment upon the "Mazarin"-
quatrain, showed that only when the predicted event actually happened,
the meaning of the prediction became clear.
As a code-key, the Arabian astrology with her planetary cycles and lunar
houses was mentioned.
In the introduction, it further read that the author, dr. Bruno Winkler,
had managed to analyse the period 1880-1950 and by doing so clearly
could explain the course of the war, including the beginning and the
end. We note that the year 1880 must have been related to the fact that
Hitler was born in 1889. The year 1950 implies that the readers were
told that by 1950 the war would be over. In their comment upon quatrain
C, De Wohl c.s. wrote about Churchill that he would be Prime Minister
for seven years. In 1940, Churchill was appointed as Prime Minister and
was in charge of a war cabinet. One could derive from this comment that
in 1947, the war would be over.
Some elements in the introduction return in the propagandistic comments,
such as the rebus form "anagram", planetary positions, Arabian
astrology and the division of the 20th century in three periods, two of
them specified: the periods 1900-1933 and 1933-1967. In other words: the
theory in the introduction can be found in the practice of the
propagandistic comments and the readers who wanted to verify these
comments found their confirmation in the introduction.
Layout
of the parts 1 - 5
In
the parts 1 - 5 of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf,
fifty quatrains are discussed: seven in part 1, eleven in part 2, eleven
in part 3, nine in part 4 and twelve in part 5.
The introduction was made up in the form of a continuous text, in which
the quatrain texts were printed in italics. IN the parts 1 - 5, the
quatrains, the translations and the comments each had their specific
place on the pages.
Each part of the parts 1 - 5 began on an even page, which contained the
title of the part. Consequently, the quatrain texts and the
corresponding translations were printed on the uneven pages. As a result,
they were consequently on the left side of the brochure. The
corresponding comments were consequently printed on the even pages and
therefore on the right side of the brochure. In all cases, the size of
the comments did not exceed the page. Like this, the German readers
would recognize the French quatrain, the corresponding translation and
the corresponding comment at the first glance
It has already been discussed that in the parts 1 - 5 of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf three font types were used. The French
quatrains were reproductions of texts, written in calligraphy, in order to suggest that these
texts were reproductions of an old manuscript; the corresponding
translations were printed in Fracture and the corresponding comments in
Antiqua. It looks as if De Wohl c.s. wanted to create a series of
recognition points with this consequent kind of typography and thus
wanted to "guide" the eyes of their readers, in order to give
the greatest amount of impact to their propaganda..
Centurical
elements
De Wohl c.s. did everything to give a Century-look to the
French quatrains in the parts 1 - 5 in Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf.
1.
Rhyme scheme
Almost all quatrains in the parts 1 - 5 in Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, also the ones they themselves invented,
have the rhyme scheme a-b-a-b, which is also present in the major part
of the Century-quatrains.
De Wohl c.s. did not always manage to formulate the lines in such a way
that they always consisted of ten stressed syllables, another feature of
most of the Century-quatrains.
2.
Anagrams
In the introduction, it was stated that the extraordinary quality of
Nostradamus was his ability to mention names of persons, among which
Franco and Hitler, who in the future would play an important part. In
the parts 1 - 5, this reoccurred in the form of anagrams.
The first propagandistic quatrain in Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf in which De Wohl c.s. presented an anagram, was
quatrain LXXXVIII. This quatrain contained the word Lerbin, which
according to them was an anagram for Berlin. De Wohl c.s. themselves had
invented this anagram. In their comment upon quatrain LXXXVIII, they
noted that anagrams frequently occurred in the Centuries. They
referred to Nizaram, mentioned in the introduction, Chiren (Henri)
and Rensaf (France). In the quatrains LXXXVIII and DLVIII, Berlin
was also indicated with the word Lerbin.
Quite well-known is the picture in Uranias Kinder... and her
English source texts of page 112 of Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf, on which the first line of quatrain DC reads: Hister
quen luitte et fer au fait bellique. This quatrain is a perversion
of quatrain 03-30, which De Wohl c.s. copied word-by-word except for the
first line, which reads: Celuy qu'en luitte & fer au fait bellique. In
their perverted version, De Wohl c.s. replaced the word Celuy by
the word Hister, about which they told that it was an anagram for
Hitler. They also did this in the quatrains CXXIX, DXXI, DLXIII and DCXXXIV.
3.
Symbolic indications
De Wohl c.s. had developed a range of symbolic indications for nations
and persons, something which is also done in Century--quatrains.
They copied some of these indications from Century-comments and
invented other indications themselves. In their comments, they gave the
"clues". Thus, Germany c.a. Hitler's Germany was indicated
with the words Aigle, Aquilon
and Grand
Germanie; Great-Britain with the words Grand Neptune and
Lyon;
Hitler with Le Grand, Italy with the words Ausonie and Les
Hesperies; Mussolini with Le Noir and Russia c.q. the
communists with Les rouges.
Marginal
notes
Unfortunately, I
do not have German articles, books, letters or government documents,
dating from the period 1943-45, in which Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf is discussed in one way or another.
Therefore, it is not possible to discuss the impact of this brochure in
the period 1943-45. With a certain degree of restriction - today is a
different era than the era of World War II - some marginal notes can be
placed in connection with the design of this brochure and the camouflage
measures.
De Wohl c.s. took many measures to give Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf the look of an authentic German brochure, which was
the result of a meticulous study of the Centuries. One of the
features of Howe's work for the Psychological Warfare Executive was that
he went out of his way to get that kind of paper and that kind of ink
which matched with what was used in Germany.[12]
De Wohl c.s. did not content themselves with the announcement of the
decline of nazi-Germany, but embedded their message in on the one hand
comments upon original quatrains which were presented as being fulfilled
and on the other hand propagandistic comments upon quatrains - either
perverted or invented - in which the readers were told that Nostradamus
predicted the rise of Hitler and his military success. A British or a
French commentator would not appraise Hitler in such a way, therefore, Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf
had to be of German origin.

Some camouflage measures were not that perfect. In 1943, Winkler did not
reside in Weimar, but in Bühl. At the time of the spread of Nostradamus prophezeit den
Kriegsverlauf, Regulus publishers no longer existed. In 1941, this
company was closed by the Gestapo due to the Aktion-Heß,
the raid in Germany among astrologers and occultist because of the
passage in May 1941 of Rudolf Heß to England. In Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, the logo which Regulus publishers had
in 1937 and which was printed on the title page of Und dies
geheimnisvolle Buch...!, a triangle with the zodiacal signs, was not
present. Those who were familiar with the Centuries, would raise
there eyebrows, seeing the way in which in the parts 1 - 5 of Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf
the quatrains were numbered. Further, a comparison between the quatrain
texts in parts 1 - 5 with quatrain texts in French editions, would show
inexorable that De Wohl c.s. perverted and invented quatrain texts,
albeit because of the hight frequency of the word Hister
in Nostradamus prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf, five times, since it
only occurs thrice in the Centuries. All these imperfections
might have had a negative influence on the propagandistic impact of Nostradamus
prophezeit den Kriegsverlauf but also could have remained unnoticed,
since some people, when in hard times they have a feeling of impending
disaster, turn to superstition which under these circumstances seems to
have a kernel of truth, and are not aware of the fact that the brochure
they read is not a genuine study, but a piece of propaganda.
