L'an mil neuf cens nonante neuf sept mois
Du ciel viendra vn grand Roy deffraieur
Resusciter le grand Roy d'Angolmois.
Avant apres Mars regner par bon heur.
Translation
(Van Berkel, 2002)
The year thousand nine hundred ninety nine seven months:
From the sky will come a great King of terror
To bring back to life the great Angoulmois king
Before and after Mars reigns by good luck.
Van
Berkel categorizes this quatrain as a year
quatrain.
The
smallest year, mentioned in the quatrains, is the year 580 in quatrain
06-02. The highest year is the year 1999 in quatrain 10-72. These years are, regarding the figure, smaller than 2242, the number of years of the
time span of the quatrains. This led to the "reference number
system". The idea behind this system is that the years, mentioned
in the quatrains, are not years, but reference numbers in the series of years
between 1555 and 3797, the time span of the quatrains.
A
number of investigators connected quatrain 10-72 with the past
millennium change 1999-2000 and the total solar Eclipse which was visible
above Europe on August 11, 1999. They suppose that Nostradamus
calculated the date of the solar Eclipse and that the contents of
quatrain 10-72 are the result of an astrological analysis of this Eclipse.
According to them, the first line refers to August 1, 1999. This date
would be according to the Julian calendar, that was in use in
Nostradamus' lifetime. They add 10 days because of the difference
between the Julian and the Gregorian calendar. The result is August 11,
1999.
In
the investigation on which Nostradamus,
astrology and the Bible
is based, is concluded that these investigators made a
mistake. The ten-day difference between the Julian calendar and the
Gregorian is for Nostradamus' lifetime. In the later centuries, this
difference increased. In 1999, the difference was 13 days. Recalculation
should have resulted in August 14, 1999. There was no
solar Eclipse on that date.
The year of fulfilment of quatrain 10-72 is (March 1, 1555 + 1999 years
+ 7 months): October 1, 3554 AD.

L'an mil neuf cens nonante neuf sept mois,
Du ciel viendra vn grand Roy d'effrayeur:
Resusciter le grand Roy d'Angolmois,
Auant apres Mars regner par bon-heur.
Translation
thinks that the astrological foundation of this quatrain is a total
Solar Eclipse, which occurs on July 29, 1999 (Julian calendar) on 18
Leo. Regarding the fourth line, he writes that Mars rules a period of 36
years, running from 2008 to 2044.[1]
