From 1980, the author examined the quatrains and letters of Nostradamus in order to reconstruct Nostradamus' methods and to evaluate the value of his predictions. He based himself upon the way astrology was practiced in the Renaissance, the era in which Nostradamus lived. It is a thorough study, in which astrological methods and ideas which today are unknown for most people, are reconstructed and explained and connected with quatrains in the prophecies of Nostradamus. Like this, he also establishes fulfilment data of some quatrains in a way we did not see before in Dutch Nostradamus literature. For some quatrains, he reconstructs horary charts which are supposed to be the fundament of predictions by Nostradamus; Berkel also reconstructs some methods of location and regions. For Berkel, the final conclusion is clear: the Prophecies of Nostradamus are a major eschatological work.
