Who
was Nostradamus? Why is he so famous and why are his predictions still
read after more than 400 years? How were these predictions compiled?
Which of them are fulfilled? In the lecture The Prophecies of
Nostradamus - their present-day significance, an answer will be
given to all of these questions. You will meet with
Nostradamus, his work and research on his life and work.
The lecture
The
Prophecies of Nostradamus - their present-day significance has a varying character, which makes it interesting for a variety of
groups: astrological societies, ESP-societies, schools, religious
groups, students etc.
The
information is the leading feature, but technical aspects are not
lacking and the confrontation with common ideas about the oeuvre of
Nostradamus is not avoided. The contents of the lecture are clarified
with sheets, which contain surveys, illustrations and horoscope figures.
By
means of data regarding the number of daily visitors of the website Nostradamus,
astrology and the Bible (www.nostradamusresearch.org),
it is explained in what way the Centuries, 400 years after their
compilation, still are topic of interest.
A
brief exposure of research fields regarding Nostradamus and his work.
The lecture deals with the life of Nostradamus, his publications, the
compilation of the Centuries, the most early dated French
editions and Dutch translations. The geographical span of the Centuries
and their time span is also discussed, as well as the construction of
the predictions and the characteristics of a quatrain.
After
a discussion of the reputation of the Centuries and a summing up
of predictions by Nostradamus which, according to some commentators, are
fulfilled, these predictions are critically investigated. The
establishing of their prediction value is the result of looking at
fulfilment data, sources, moments on which the world is supposed to come
to an end, geographical spreading, time structures and biblical
arguments.
In
the last part of the lecture, some kinds of abuse of the nostradamian
oeuvre are exposed. There is a discussion of Les Significations de
l’Eclipse qui sera le 16. Septembre 1559, according to some Century-scholars meant as a reply of Nostradamus to his critics, according to
other Century-scholars a counterfeit, meant to show that in 1558 he predicted
the decease of the French king Henry II in 1559. It is also explained
how in 1939 dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels, minister of Propaganda in Nazi-Germany, came to use the Centuries for
psychological warfare. Some Dutch national-socialist comments on
Nostradamus, published in 1940-’41, are exposed.
In the
lecture The Prophecies of Nostradamus - their present-day significance,
material is presented which has been published in 2002 in Nostradamus,
astrology and the Bible, completed with findings of mr. Van Berkel in
the later years of research; findings which he published on the website Nostradamus,
astrology and the Bible (www.nostradamusresearch.org).
The lecture The
Prophecies of Nostradamus - their present-day significance lasts
about 2 hours, including a break and the opportunity to ask questions or
give remarks.
Sheets are used in order to clarify the contents of the lecture. These
sheets contain surveys, pictures and horoscope charts.
